More Veracruz

Okay here some photos from one of the site seeing outings that I actually did go on. This is a small cannon fort in the middle of the downtown area of Veracruz. We didn’t take the whole tour to get all the history because it was $3.50 per person to read a few plaques on the wall of a room about the size of my room. Didn’t think it was worth it!

This is why I wouldn’t make a good Mexican soldier…I can’t barely fit through the doors of the rifle towers.

This is Isla de Sacrificio – Island of Sacrifice. It’s is said this Island was used back in the day before the Conquistadores for the natives to use in their worship to their gods and for ceremonial purposes. Today it’s an ecological reserve off limits to the general public. It sports a staging area for studying sharks.

I feel the heat but didn't ever know the exact temperatures here so I added a weather tracker there in the side bar. Do you like it?

The Pyramids at Cempoala

This is a must see to all those who plan on visiting our home. These achaeological ruins are about an hour north of us. It was a Family Day excursion for our home and for the Czechs visiting. I won't put up a big thing about the history but for those who are interested click here.

Click here for Jenny's post which has more pictures...
It's worth a look!

River Ride

One of our outings this past week was a boat ride up the river…cool thing about that is the river borders our back yard. Yes, I live on an island!!

The boat arriving in the back yard!

The whole crew.

Danny, our river rat.

A big tree!

A neighbor.

House of the Countess:
This house once belonged to a rich French Countess who ran a slave trade a hundred years or so back. It is fabled that she would lure young men and teens to the house with her beauty. They would serve her and her purposes for a few months then she would take their lives. It is said that none who past into her house ever came back. Other versions of the stories include tunnels that run from the house, under the river and then emerging in the city of Veracruz.

Fort San Juan de UlĂșa

“One of the greatest symbols of Mexico's modern history, its struggles, defeats and victories, sits on an island in the port of Veracruz. The mighty fortress of San Juan de Ulua evokes the spirit of excitement and adventure that marked the great swashbuckling era of sword fights and stowaways, the era of explorers and conquistadors.

The fort is also a testament to the importance of Veracruz, the first European city on the American mainland, which served as the main entrance to Mexico from the time of its founding in the sixteenth century until the advent of air travel in the twentieth century. All European and most North American trade and travel were conducted through the port of Veracruz until fifty or sixty years ago.”

Excerpt from: San Juan de Ulua: Mexico’s Haunted Castle by Lovetta Scott Miller
September 1997 Guadalajara-Lakeside Volume 14, Number 1

Being that the Czechs were here visiting this past week a trip to the fort was in order!
Here are photos from that outing. Oh I didn’t go so there aren’t any of me …

Happenings

My friends are asking if my blog will be the new “birthday central,” and if anything else is happening in my life lol! I don’t think it will, I am just blessed to know so many people and have so many good friends. There are more birthdays coming up though (mine being the 10th of May) so there may be a few more yet! But so that you don’t forget mine I have added a countdown clock to my Birthday over there on the sidebar above my profile.

As to if anything else has been happening in my life, YES! Lot’s has been happening, apart for the multiple daily tasks of helping the home function we have had a mini reunion of Czech disciples this past week. So there have been lots of touristy excursions, beach trips, hanging out and good times! I will doing a series of posts highlighting those excursions and some of the local history and attractions from my local area. Maybe it will be interesting!

For now here’s a photo of the other night hanging out at the beach. Click on the names for their blogs.

HB2Y Shelly

(Shelly is in the middle.)

Happy Birthday!!

It seems like I have known you for ages, even though it hasn’t been but a little over a year. But in that short time we have shared friendship, cheesecake and Smirnoff. You always have a positive thing to say and know how to talk to people making them feel like they are the only thing that matters at that moment. May you never lose that gift. If you ever need anything just let me know!!

HB2Y Cel

Cel, I am at a loss as to what to blog for your birthday! I wanted it to be cool and nice and the best blog post ever. I wanted to somehow convey to the world what a good friend you are, the type of friend everyone should have at least one of. A friend who has been there through the good and the bad times and loved me the same. A friend who has listened when I felt no one else would, a friend who is spontaneous and always a spark in me day. You know, that type of friend that you look forward to seeing and hanging out with, one that I can truly be just myself with without having to worry about what the next day’s reaction is going to be. But I just don’t know how to say all that I would.

So I searched your blog for photos of you that are just the best…lol! I hope you don’t mind me reposting some of them! ;)

I hope and pray that this coming year will be your best and that the Lord showers down his blessings on you! May all your prayers be answered and your dreams come true.

Happy Birthday!

Additions to the Blog Roll

So I am adding a couple links to the blog roll of blogs I have been visiting. Click on their names to check out their blog.

Anj (Whacky) lives in Iceland. Her blog if full of testimonies, experiences and lessons of life. I don’t know her personally but from what I can tell from her blogs and comments she leaves for others she seems to always have a nice thing to say.

Rosita lives in Detroit and is all about witnessing. Her blog post are usually testimonies or funny stories of things that happen to her or members of her home. Who says blondes have more fun?

Then there’s Tina E.
First I must apologize for not having linked sooner, you know how one things leads to another and before you know it months have gone by without having done it. Tina was a member of our home and is now in Europe, she says she’ll be back but only time will tell. Tina, have fun and post more!

Happy Easter

Easter is about life!

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. -Jn.15:5

Have Truck....Will Travel

I am feeling a little obsolete today!

Here is “Old Faithful” one of the main things that make me feel useful in this home.

Here is the “New Recruit” TTL for His supply, due entirely from donations our home has a new truck!

Hmmm….any homes out there need a single male with a truck?
